Dr. Erin McKerney

Dr. McKerney is a veterinarian, wife, mother and life long animal lover. She grew up in rural San Diego County surrounded by lots of trees, beautiful meadows and animals of all kinds. Her beloved childhood pets including dogs, livestock, chickens and horses were the spark that lead to a career caring for and healing animals. Her early exposure to veterinary medicine was with a mobile equine practitioner who visited their home to treat the horses which made a lasting impression.

Dr. McKerney completed her undergraduate degree in 2007 in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from UC San Diego. She then went on to study veterinary medicine at UC Davis where she graduated with honors, in 2011. Following graduation Dr. McKerney completed a one year intensive internship in sport horse medicine at Peninsula Equine in Menlo Park, CA. From there, she went on to work with Dr. Susan Stover and the J.D. Wheat Laboratory at the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis where she studied orthopedic injuries in racehorses. Upon completion of this project Dr. McKerney pursued a second clinical internship in small animal emergency and speciality care at the Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center in Sacramento, CA to further advance her small animal skills. After the completion of her second internship in 2015, Dr. McKerney became an associate DVM at the Veterinary Healing Center in El Dorado Hills where she spent 7 years as an integrative DVM. In the summer of 2022, Dr. McKerney made the bitter sweet decision to leave VHC to pursue her dream of practice ownership. Happy Pet Mobile Vet was founded in 2022 as a way for Dr. McKerney to both follow her dream of ownership but also to create a space for a simpler, more personalized way to provide veterinary care and support to her patients and clients.

Dr. McKerney’s interest in integrative care was developed though caring for her own animals over the years with special needs that were not getting relief from painful conditions with traditional therapies and medications. There had to be more that could be done! In her quest for answers, for her own pets, she discovered a wide range of complementary therapies that were both safe and effective. To her delight this new knowledge not only helped her pets but improved her health as well! A lifelong learner, over the last decade Dr. McKerney has creatively intertwined training and certifications in different aspects of holistic care into her professional skill set. She hopes to study chiropractic care and advanced training in herbal medicine next!

Dr. McKerney resides in Davis with her husband and daughter and their 2 senior dogs Toki and Lulu. When Dr. McKerney is not seeing patients she enjoys spending time with family, being active outdoors, watching baseball and studying new ways to help her patients feel their best!
